Meet the leadership
Obaid Rizvi, MSc., P.Eng.
Senior Managing Director
As senior managing director at Eigenspace, Obaid leads the firm’s operations, business development, and the successful delivery of municipal infrastructure and land development projects.
He guides multidisciplinary teams while building strong relationships with municipalities, developers, government agencies, Indigenous communities, and industry partners.
With over 29 years of civil engineering experience, he oversees project planning, design, contract administration, construction management, and quality assurance, making sure work is delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget. Through his leadership, he helps Eigenspace provide sustainable and practical infrastructure solutions that create lasting value for clients and communities.
A big part of his role is identifying growth opportunities, developing long-term client partnerships, and guiding strategic initiatives and the
expansion of Eigenspace's presence across both the public and private sectors.
Committed to technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration, Obaid mentors engineering professionals and fosters a culture of accountability, integrity, and continuous improvement.
Outside of work, Obaid enjoys spending quality time with his family and travelling, taking every opportunity to explore new destinations and experience different cultures.
Joshua Schmaltz, M.Eng., P.Eng., PMP, ENV SP
Engineering Design Manager
Joshua leads our engineering design team, making sure proposed project drawings are constructible and accurately reflect the latest site conditions. He collaborates closely with field crews to work through any construction challenges – and to find the right solutions that meet community and stakeholder needs.
Joshua is a civil engineer with over 14 years of municipal engineering and project management experience. He has previously led and delivered a wide range of greenfield land developments, neighbourhood rehabilitation projects, arterial roadways, and buildings. In addition to his substantial engineering portfolio, he’s participated in public engagement, financial management, detailed design, and project delivery phases on complex initiatives. Joshua is recognized in the industry for his ability to deliver sustainable project outcomes that satisfy scope, budget, schedule, and quality control requirements.
Outside of work, Joshua plays hockey, rides bikes, and skis in the mountains.
Hooman Vafakhah, MSc., P.Eng.
Engineering Construction Manager
Hooman leads our construction management team, overseeing the successful delivery of municipal infrastructure projects from pre-construction planning through to project close-out. He works closely with clients, contractors, utility providers, and field personnel to ensure projects are constructed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design intent, while proactively resolving site challenges as they arise.
A professional engineer with extensive experience in engineering design, construction management, and contract administration, Hooman has successfully managed a wide range of municipal infrastructure projects, including greenfield land developments, underground utility installations, arterial roadways, stormwater management facilities, and site servicing. His expertise includes construction supervision, project scheduling, cost control, contract administration, quality assurance, stakeholder coordination, and regulatory approvals.
Recognized for his collaborative leadership and practical, solution-oriented approach, Hooman is committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects that meet scope, budget, schedule, and safety objectives. He is dedicated to building strong relationships with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies while ensuring successful project outcomes that create lasting value for the communities they serve.
